From June to August 2018 , members of our Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Brigade companies worked on an outdoor project.

There were 2 parts to the project

1. The Vegetable Garden

We teamed up with The Royal Horticultural Society to take part in the “I Can Grow” project.

The aim of “I Can Grow” was to

- Empower young people to garden for the purpose they feel is important

- Help them understand the role that plants play in our lives and the future

  of plants

- Provide the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills about plants

  and gardening

We built raised beds and planted them.

We grew Potatoes , Leeks , Cabbage , Carrots , Onions and much more.

We gardened on Monday evenings during the summer in 2018 and 2019. Due to Covid restrictions

We have had to suspend the project for the moment but we plan to resume next summer

2. Bee Hotel

We built a Bee Hotel at the end of the hut. This involved hanging mugs filled with bamboo.

We planted Bee friendly types of flowers to help attract bees to our Bee Hotel.

This will help protect the bees and allow pollination of more plants.

Bees are declining in number but they play a vital part in nature , and help certain plants to survive.
